Due to legal reasons maybe you guys can't have one built in but there's nothing stopping a 3rd party making one for fans heh. Hell even a original Colonization graphics tileset could be made. Once there are some tilesets out there it would definitely increase user interest. If the support is there then surely that would encourage talented modders who pass through here (eg guys like and ) to make something as I suspect the lack of support for it probably put people off in the past. While OBVIOUSLY not a priority at the moment as I know the left over team are just trying to get the bugs fixed and new release out there, I'm still curious to know if there is a plan to add a feature for alternative tielset mods. old freecol mailing list convo about 'borrowing' some of the freeciv tilset designs (this guy was willing but wasn't given the existing FreeCiv tileset) plus the last post on page 3 even has a tileset made by someone else but no one gave him feedback and the file link is dead now :( ) (sounds like this guy worked on a tileset that people loved but he dispeared and his links don't work now. (mentions that the engine work could be done in a few months) I went searching through history and see a number of conversations here were fans wanted a 2D set and even cases where it sounds like alternative tilesets were made but not finished and discussions about implementing support in the engine for it that I didn’t know if they were done. FreeCol was originally a branch of Freeciv waaaaaay back in the day wasn't it? (EDIT: Turns out it wasn't lol) If so did any of that multiple titleset loading engine work come across? Or is there nothing and it would have to built from scratch? His comment made me think about how FreeCiv has a whole selection of interesting alternative tilesets eg tradition 2D, Hexagonal, and variations of the 2.5 iso ones too keeping everyone happy. It's a shame that there are Col fans out there who won't touch this project and all the great work put into it because they don't like the graphics style. While I prefer the 2.5D isometric era I do understand and respect his preference as many people have a nostalgic love for the original 2D era. I was just chatting on another forum with people about how awesome FreeCol is and someone said they they've never played it as they hate the graphics and want oldschool 2D top down graphics.
